I am sitting on the Patio at Blue's Bayou in Brentwood Bay on Vancouver Island. It has been a perfect day of windswept laughter, fresh fruit and hula hooping with one of my besty's. Sure I mostly watched the hula hooping, but it still counts. We are both content watching the sun slip behind the mountain.
This cafe is campy and unique, the fare fabulous. We are stuffed when the waitress asks us if dessert might be entertained. It is in this moment that light bulbs go off over both our heads simultaneously.
"What time is it"!?! we ask in unison, eyes locked. Fumbling for phones, I get to mine first only to realize it is 8:40 p.m.. My day trip was to end with a ferry trip back to Vancouver on the last sailing at 9 p.m. Ticket sales end in ten minutes. We are 25 minutes away. The specialist appointment I have the following morning comes to mind.
However, our last hurrah is not over. My girlfriend moves across the country in a few weeks to attend school and I am taking this as a nudge from the Fates. We laugh. I snap this photo off the deck and breathe in the moment as it stretches out. I take nothing for granted and enjoy it all.
While I haven't been able to convince myself that everything happens for a reason. I have been able to find a lesson in every experience. Occasionally that lesson is to let go and enjoy the splendor a little longer.
I hope my moment opens a door to somewhere special in your world today.
Be kind to yourself today and remember, you are nobly born.
